While we were in Europe, I thinking about what it means to be spiritually & emotionally healthy. What does it look like to care for your soul? And I got thinking about various conferences we’ve attended over the past few years, where a major theme has been, taking care of your soul. Which is great.

During my junior year of high school my basketball coach told me that although I would never be a starter on the team, if I worked really hard over the summer, I could be a good 6th man (first person off the bench for those who don’t follow basketball). Well our little chat inspired, me and I set out to prove him wrong.

This morning’s post was written by David Stipanuck. David is one of the teacher here with Vineyard Kids, as well as Professor Emeritus at Cornell’s Hotel School. This fall, one of the churches in our area, Trinity Lutheran, is hosting a “food packing event” in September.

A news story came out this week reporting that volunteering in America rose dramatically in the past year. Many expected that the recession would cause people to be less likely to give their time to the cause of their choice, but actually the opposite happened. In fact the number of volunteers rose by 1.6 million people in 2009 to 63.4 million!

So we are at the mall, Liz asks me to hold a bag while she runs in to a store. I’m pretty sure I picked it up…in fact one or two kids remember seeing me with it. We’re just not sure where it is at this point. Thankfully most of the day went better than that.

On Sunday morning, I will be talking about Sabbath.  In fact I’ll be saying that me & my family observe Sabbath generally between 6:00 pm on Friday to 6:00 pm on Saturday.  Obviously, this showed up at 2:00 pm on Saturday, which as you may have figured out falls during the time of my Sabbath.  [...]

I’ve said it before, but the cafe is still my favorite part of the building. We already hosted a few dinners there, a super bowl party and even a wedding reception! Plus finally having a place to put our awesome oak tables and chairs is a great plus.

Yesterday I wrote a bit about the next phase of our building project. However, clearly it’s one thing to say, “we are trying to raise $60,000.” It is another to say, “Here is what we are trying to do, & why we think this matters.”

As we mentioned this past Sunday, we have set a goal of raising $60,000 over the next 6 months so that we can finally finish off the this great space that God has given to us. This coming Sunday we are going to collect pledge cards during or service, and then on Sunday night we’ll post here updating how we did!

I am really excited about something brand new that we are starting at the Ithaca Vineyard this fall; the Ithaca Vineyard Internship Program! The internship will be open to people who are considering full-time ministry in the future as well as those who want to grow as leaders.
