Responding to God's Voice

Speaker Mike Foster continued our series Life of Surprise with a message about how hearing God, in the many ways He speaks, can’t be separated from taking action. Every occurrence in the Old Testament of the word “obey” is the verb form of “to hear.” Israel of the Exodus didn’t enter the Promised Land because they heard, but they didn’t obey. How do we respond to God’s voice? We learn how from Moses, Abraham, Samuel, Isaiah…. “Here I am.” The Hebrew “Hineni” is far more than raising a hand for an attendance count. It’s a full, complete presence committed to service, saying “yes” before even knowing what will be asked of us. When we see that response to God in the Bible, someone is about to be surprised! When we don’t know what to do in the details of that obedience, the fast at Ahava shows us how to find the right way for us, our families, and our gifts to God.
